Twining alongside a panoramic image of the historic ropewalk building in South Dunedin, office workers and city dwellers had a chance to contribute to the making of the 300 meter rope, the length of the building, using a hand twisted two ply technique that is straight forward to learn. With an environmental and sustainability message at its core, Rope/Walk - through hands-on participation aims to encourage participants to think about, and use, responsibly and respectfully, natural materials at hand.

The project aims to foster learning a new skill while reflecting on a time in our history, when rope was made of harakeke and in Aotearoa a significant industry developed from this culturally important plant, that lasted for decades. Visitors also had a chance to twine some string from tī kōuka to take home.
