When did you last pause to think about the relationship you have with nature? That’s one of the questions posed by Ōtepoti Overlays, a project curated by science communicator Liv Taylor-Peebles. The walkthrough installation juxtaposed native flora once found in Central Ōtepoti Dunedin against contemporary versions of nature. Accompanied by audio-visuals, the installation created a sensory timeline of transition. Visitors were invited to take their shoes off and dig their toes in the dirt while pondering the relationship we have with nature.

Ōtepoti Overlays was supported by the Dunedin Dream Brokerage and property partner the Meridian Mall, and running in association with the New Zealand International Science Festival 2021.
