The Clothing Bin, a collaboration by Nicola Hansby and Anna Perry, opened on Friday 4th of December. From the window on George street a curious display of toys, an exercycle, popcorn packets, a petrol container and various other domestic objects could be seen. The Clothing Bin was a collaboration between two painters, two neighbourhoods and the discarded everyday object.

As a collaboration, Nicola in Pine Hill and Anna in Caversham, they collected the items strewn around their local clothing bins, took them back to their studios and painted each one for their exhibition. The objects continued to have a life of their own as audience members were invited to move and install them within in the exhibition as they saw fit.

Free drawing workshops were held each Saturday of the exhibition where participants were invited to observe, discuss and draw the objects. The workshops provided an opportunity for participants to consider drawing as an experience, have some fun with the process and either add their finished work to the exhibition or take it home.

The Clothing Bin as a collaborative project drew attention to the wider social issues of waste, consumerism, kaitiakitanga and community.
