THE NEUROSPICE GIRLS is a bold new theatrical work by internationally acclaimed theatre-maker Lizzie Tollemache. Supported by Dunedin Dream Brokerage, the production presented six compelling showings, marking the show’s first full-scale production and celebrating the extraordinary depth of neurodivergent talent within our creative community. Licensed by Playmarket and directed by Kim Morgan of Hic Sunt Dracones (HSD) Productions, the production featured a local ensemble cast and creative team dedicated to authentic storytelling and inclusivity.

Alongside creator Lizzie Tollemache, the production brought together a distinguished local ensemble cast featuring Mārama Grant, Lexie Tomlinson, Ellie Swann, and Destiny Carvell. The multidisciplinary creative team included sound and A/V design by Matthew Morgan, lighting design by Garry Keirle, and stage management led by Sahara Pohatu-Trow.

This powerful and unapologetically personal work offered a funny and ferocious neurodivergent odyssey, a journey from gut-punching denial to joyful celebration. It challenged audiences to reconsider simplistic solutions often offered around neurodivergence, from diagnoses and crystals to the overuse of terms like “boundaries.”

Accessibility was prioritised throughout the process, with the inclusion of social stories, access videos, a chill-out room, a resource room, and relaxed performances to create a supportive environment for all audiences.

This work was proudly auspiced by Stage South Charitable Trust, an organisation connecting and advocating for Ōtepoti/Dunedin’s professional theatre artists
