Lara Hattingh

Lara Hattingh is a multidisciplinary artist from South Africa, based in Ōtepoti Dunedin. Her practice centres on oil painting and site-specific mural work - where she brings together her fine art training, narrative themes, and sensitivity to place. Her approach blends painterly detail with an intuitive response to space, resulting in works that feel both grounded and alive within their surroundings. Hattingh has exhibited her work in South Africa, India, and New Zealand.

Hattingh approaches the Locations of Interest Digital Residency as a process-led portrait of Dunedin, bridging physical and digital spaces while foregrounding how place shapes her artistic practice. Her posts will document, translate, and reflect on how work moves from observation to finished artwork. The posts will engage painting, film photography, digital illustration, and video, allowing these mediums to inform one another in the process of ideation.
