Spectacle presents EXTEND featured sculptural installations by artists, Jess Covell, Shelley Harding, Lucy Hunter, and Chris Miller. The opening night saw audience members directing musicians with a participatory draw and sonic response performance by experimental jazz quintet Piecemeal. Audience members were invited to draw on a whiteboard and the band interpreted the drawing using their various instruments. Workshops were also run by Jess Covell and Shelley Harding which gave audience members the chance to learn new creative processes and make an artwork to take home.

Jess Covell used the process of tufting where she worked with fibres, both acrylic and natural, to create interactive sculptural forms and wall pieces. The colour saturated sculptures sat against mirrors creating the illusion of an endless dreamscape.

Lucy Hunter hand built ceramic figures inspired by trees growing out of the soil, likened to forest spirits expanding into the air. The figures were painted with multi-coloured glazes and gold lustre.

Shelley Harding made glazed ceramic sculptures, mimicking the natural world, inspired by fungi and expansive natural ecosystems. Her work speaks to the generative nature of organic life and their vast networks.

Chris Miller created a multi-speaker, multi-channel, surround sound system where speakers were arranged in a circle to embrace the listener. The original composition explored polyrhythms and the effects of their placement in different speakers. The choice of particular frequencies relayed how phasing can be achieved and altered by proximity to speakers.
